Below are two workflows that can be used to control the location of the data/log files when creating enterprise geodatabases.
A. Create a database prior to using the Create Enterprise Geodatabase tool
Use the database management tools to create a database with the desired settings prior to using the Create Enterprise Geodatabase tool. In the Create Enterprise Geodatabase tool, the 'database_name' parameter can be either an existing or a preconfigured database.
B. Change the default location in SQL Server Management Studio for the SQL Server instance
Specifying a default location in SQL Server Management Studio for the SQL Server instance changes the properties that are used when subsequent databases are created in the SQL Server instance. Follow the steps below to change the default location.
1. In SQL Server Management Studio, right-click the instance in the Object Explorer and select Properties.
2. Go to the Database Settings page and specify the desired location under 'Database default locations (data/log)'.
3. Restart the SQL Server service for these changes to take effect.
