FAQ:  Can Spatial Data Server 10.1 be used with ArcGIS 10.2?

ArcGIS Spatial Data Server was introduced at ArcGIS10.1 to support the creation of feature services from simple features in databases that could be viewed, published, and edited from ArcGIS web, mobile, and other clients, without requiring that the data be registered as a geodatabase.

ArcGIS 10.2 introduces ArcGIS Server Feature Services, which have all of the same functionality as the Spatial Data Server, to publish editable feature services from supported database management systems. ArcGIS Server Feature Services have eliminated the need for ArcGIS 10.1 Spatial Data Server. Since ArcGIS Server Feature Services run on a GIS Server, they have the added benefit of not requiring the additional installation of ArcGIS 10.1 Spatial Data Server.

As stated in the
Deprecation Plan for ArcGIS 10.1 and ArcGIS 10.2, "There are no plans to release a new version of Spatial Data Server technology at ArcGIS 10.2. Users are encouraged to move from Spatial Data Server feature services into core ArcGIS for Server feature services. ArcGIS for Server feature services in 10.2 have been expanded to include capabilities supported by Spatial Data Server."

If requried, ArcGIS 10.1 Spatial Data Server can be used with ArcGIS 10.2. The ArcGIS 10.1 Spatial Data Server can be downloaded from the
Customer Care Portal. It is available within the ArcGIS 10.1 for Server Enterprise product download.
