No, additional attribute fields cannot be added to an ArcGIS Online hosted feature service. However, the following options are available to add a field to a hosted feature service.


Option 1: Create a Local Copy, and Add the Field.

1. Add a hosted feature service to ArcMap from My Hosted Services.
2. Right-click the hosted feature service group layer in Table of Contents > Edit Features > Create Local Copy for Editing.



3. Add new attribute fields to the local copy.
4. Right-click the group layer in Table of Contents > Edit Features > Synchronize Local Edits with Server.




Option 2: Overwrite an existing hosted feature service by publishing a new one.

1. In ArcMap, go to File > Share As > Service.
2. Select 'Overwrite an existing service' in the 'Share as Service' dialog box.



3. Click Next, and select the existing hosted feature service to be overwritten.
4. Click Continue.
5. Ensure 'Feature Access' is enabled under 'Capabilities.'
6. Click Publish.

When overwriting a hosted feature layer, a new feature layer item is created. However, the newly created feature layer item has a new ID and is created in the root folder. If necessary, users must reconfigure their sharing settings and move the newly created item back to the folder that the old item was in before it was republished.
