The instructions provided describe how to upgrade to ArcGIS 10.2 for Desktop from ArcGIS 10.0 or ArcGIS 10.1.

To use existing licenses of ArcGIS for Desktop Single-Use, or License Manager for Concurrent-Use on a machine other than one currently running ArcGIS 10.0 or 10.1, deauthorize the licenses from the current ArcGIS 10.0 or 10.1 machine prior to authorizing the licenses on the new ArcGIS 10.2 machine.

To certify ArcGIS 10.2 for Desktop on a machine other than the current ArcGIS 10.1 machine, before upgrading the production systems, it may be necessary to request temporary licenses from Esri Customer Care if no other licenses are available.

The ArcGIS 10.2 for Desktop setup package is designed to detect and upgrade existing installations of ArcGIS 10.1 for Desktop (including SP1). When upgrading, there is no need to uninstall ArcGIS 10.1 for Desktop.

ArcGIS 10.2 for Desktop Concurrent-Use requires a connection to an ArcGIS 10.2 License Manager; it cannot connect to older versions. However, an ArcGIS 10.0 or 10.1 client can connect to an ArcGIS 10.2 License Manager. Upgrade the License Manager to version 10.2 before upgrading to ArcGIS 10.2 for Desktop Concurrent-Use.
